On 09/09/2019 I went to the courthouse to observe small claims trials. As I was waiting in my car in the parking lot, I could already sense that the people there, the public and court people, were expecting me. The person who parked next to me looked like the PI with a similar vehicle.
As I went through the security scan, a law enforcement officer whispered something. Since I still had time to wait, I went to the law library. The two male librarians there didn’t seem too happy to see me, and I was just polite and friendly. I was walking the aisles and then one of the librarians asked me if I was “well versed.” I said not really and that I was just waiting to observe the small claims trials. He then walked around the aisle and whispered, “hurt!” It isn’t unusual, or even surprising, for me to see my seniors demonstrate poor character; nowadays, it actually happens on a regular basis. I walked out of the library and as I was walking around to find a seat, I could hear people whispering, but I paid no attention; I like to think they were excited to see me and just want to say hi. I eventually made my way to the courtroom and waited for a bit before the judge appeared; to my understanding, these small claims judges are actually commissioners.
It seemed like most of the proceedings were a charade. The judge addressed two small claims cases, and then other traffic related cases afterward. Both of the small claims trials ended up going to mediation immediately, which is a standard option and procedure. As one of the mediators was walking out of the courtroom, he grunted and whispered, “leave!” … LOL. If the PI does show up on our court date, I might just have to not agree to mediation; these mediators are supposed to be impartial and with this mediator’s behavior, mediation might just be a waste of time. So unfortunately, I didn’t get to see a traditional small claims trial immediately, or at all. The judge then moved on to the traffic cases and I decided to observe and wait to see the results of the small claims mediations; if plaintiff and defendant don’t settle on something, then they go back to the judge and move forward with a small claims trial. During the traffic cases, there were several cops, and others, who seemed to be there just to harass me; many of the defendants were no-shows, so then the cop and the judge move forward with the trial without the defendant.
Some time during these traffic hearings, the bailiff walked past me and whispered “broke.” I must say though, this bailiff didn’t seem malicious, but he did smirk at me once though, which was weird, and kind of funny, but not really. And then a clerk handed some documents to the judge, and the documents were for a small claims trial; the judge called for the plaintiff and the defendant and both were absent, so the judge said the case was dismissed. I smiled at this because I thought the abusers and the PI would love for me to just not show up and have this case dismissed; but then I realized they were actually trying to tell me to not show up and dismiss my case with the PI. So they were bullying me, trying to make me weak, and then tell me to dismiss the case; terrible people!
